Introduction to Turkish World Outreach |
![]() |
Turkish World Outreach:
Steve
Hagerman, the U.S. Director, founded TWO in 1969 as Friends of Turkey (FOT).
Some of our national home offices continue under the FOT name. Until direct
evangelism became possible in Turkey in the late 1980's, the best means of
reaching out to Turks was through postal evangelism. This approach is still
used. Every month, Christians throughout the world mail thousands of Turkish
language Gospel Letters
to Turks in many countries, telling them about the love of Jesus Christ.
As the means of evangelism has broadened, TWO has expanded its ministry by:
Sending workers to minister and establish indigenous Christian churches within Turkish communities
Mobilizing worldwide prayer on behalf of Turks through the Call to Prayer and other publications and networks
Assigning Christian Pen-Friends to correspond with Turks who are studying English
Providing literature, videos and resource materials to Christian workers and agencies working with Turks, and Turks who are seeking God
Coordinating financial assistance for Gospel radio, humanitarian relief, Bible translation and Turkish outreach ministries of other agencies and churches.
Through the years, the Lord has raised up other individuals and agencies to serve as TWO representatives and Turkish ministry focal points in 13 countries other than the U.S. Each national office is independent of the U.S. office and determines its own ministry approach. Only the U.S. and Australian offices are sending agencies for field workers. TWO works with indigenous mission agencies in other countries to assist them in sending out workers.
Before the Field Department was founded, TWO enabled missionaries to get to the field by managing their finances, without intentional oversight of their activities or ministry. In 1993, the Board of Directors recognized the Lord's leading in having TWO send out workers to establish churches in the Turkic world. In 1996-97, three couples joined together to comprise the new TWO Field Department, and Don Mechem, now retired was appointed as its Field Director. The current field director is Bob Harper.
TWO is an evangelical, non-sectarian Christian mission. Its emphasis is on the salvation of God offered through His Son. Its doctrinal position avoids issues over which fine servants of Christ may differ, but includes what TWO considers to be the basic doctrines to which our workers must agree.TWO considers the following to be basic tenets of Biblical Christianity:
| TWO is a member in good standing of the Evangelical
Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA). Its records are examined
annually by an independent certified public accounting firm that complies
with ECFA's standards for fund raising. TWO works scrupulously to use
resources provided by others to accomplish the purposes for which they are
intended.
For information on ECFA, please contact its web site. Copies of TWO's Financial Statements and Independent Auditor's Reports are available upon request. |
